Unauthorised construction at Mumbai college demolished

Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM) officials today demolished the fifth and sixth floors of a local college as they were found to be unauthorised.

MCGM sources said the demolition team faced some resistance from the staff of Vasantdada Patil Prathisthan College at Chunabhatti initially. College officials said the board and diploma courses exams were underway.

But as the exams were not going on on the 5th floor of Wing A, the demolition was started there. The wing comprised four class rooms, a pantry and a computer lab.

The issue of unauthorised constructions has come to fore after the collapse of a building in neighbouring Thane where 74 persons were killed earlier this month.
