Unhygienic mid day meals served in govt schools in Amritsar

During surprise checks at several government schools, the district administration today found unhygienic mid-day meals were served to students.

District Civil Surgeon Yash Mittra said cooking ingredients were found stored in dirty places near building material at various government schools which was extremely dangerous to kids' health.

Even mid-day meals were prepared with spurious ingredients, he said adding, kids were served food in unhygienic containers.

Teams which raided the schools also found insects in raw material used to prepare the meals at some schools, Mittra said.

District Education officer has been directed to ensure hygienic mid-day meals in all government schools, besides forming a committee to monitor the process wherein parents of students are to be made members.
