A union minister today took a dig at Arvind Kejriwal for his comment that MPs and MLAs facing criminal charges cannot be expected to pass good laws, saying, "You are new to politics".

Responding to allegations that only people with political background get tickets to contest polls, Union Ministers Manish Tewari and R P N Singh maintained that it was not the case and it has been proved in several elections where 'commoners' have won.

Aam Admi Party founder Arvind Kejriwal, who was among the panelists at India Today Conclave here, said, "Given the number of MPs and MLAs who have criminal charges against them, they can't be expected to pass better laws. There is a conflict of interest".

To which Union Minister R P N Singh quipped, "You are new to politics. Stand for elections in Delhi and let's see how you fare".

In reply to Union Minister Manish Tewari's contention that democracy does not allow anarchy and breaking of laws, Kejriwal said Gandhiji had taught that it is every citizen's right to break rules that promote corruption and bad governance.
