Marking World Oral Health Day, dentists in the state today stressed on the importance of detecting oro-dental diseases at an early stage to prevent severe infections.
President of the Indian Dental Association, Dr Gautam Sharma said untreated oral diseases could be fatal as they may cause serious infection of head and neck region.
"A patient with dental problem generally avoids consulting a dentist at an early stage and the only reason which brings him to a dentist is an attack of a severe dental pain," he said.

He said some patients do not approach a dentist but try to get relief with homemade remedies and after some time this acute painful stage slips into the chronic stage and the pain subsides.
"This subsiding of pain can also be fatal as it may cause serious infection of head and neck region," he said.
