Opposition Bhartiya Janata Party members today alleged discrimination by the Uttar Pradesh government in allotment of hand pumps to their constituencies, leading to the Assembly being adjourned for 25 minutes.

In reply to an adjournment notice by BJP on shortage of water in the coming months as hand pumps have become defunct, Minister for State for Rural Development, Arvind Singh Gope said that 50 new hand pumps and 50 for reboring have been sanctioned per block by the government and a GO has also been issued to this effect.

Besides this, the minister said 50,000 other hand pumps have also been given by Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav last month.

However, alleging that none of the Opposition party members have been allotted hand pumps in their respective constituency, BJP members stormed the Well of the House raising anti-government slogans and sat on dharna.

Speaker Mata Prasad Pandey adjourned the Assembly for 25 minutes in phases as the BJP members refused to heed to his requests to restore order in the house.

Later, Pandey also assured the House that he would talk to the leaders of all the parties and take up the matter with the Chief Minister.
