A UP minister was today sentenced to three year rigorous imprisonment by a local court for manhandling a postman 20 years ago.

Child Development and Nutrition Minister Kailash Chaurasiya was, however, released on bail on furnishing a personal bond.

Chief Judicial Magistrate Rajesh Bharadwaj sentenced the minister in connection with a case registered against him by postman Krishna Dev Tripathi, Chaurasia's counsel Bihari Singh said.

Tripathi had alleged that when he had gone to deliver a registered letter at Chaurasiya's home on October 19, 1995, he misbehaved with him and snatched a bundle of official documents, the counsel.

A case was registered against Chaurasiya under various sections of the IPC.

The CJM, after hearing both the sides, pronounced the judgement and later released the minister on bail.
