Five candidates from BJP, Congress and RLD have been booked for allegedly violating the model code of conduct ahead of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, police said today.

Show cause notices have also been served to three regional dailies and one national daily for allegedly publishing paid news.

"We have filed a total of 21 FIRs against candidates of different political parties for violating the model code of conduct," ADM/MCMC In charge Ravindra Kumar said.

Police have booked Congress candidate Jagdish Nauhar from Mat Assembly constituency for allegedly organising a dance performance in a public meeting without prior permission and carrying publicity material in his vehicle, Kumar said.
