The Allahabad High Court has issued notice to the Member Secretary of UP Legal Services Authority (UPLSA) on a PIL challenging an advertisement inviting applications for appointment of chairpersons of permanent lok adalats established in 45 districts of Uttar Pradesh.

A division bench of justices Dinesh Maheshwari and Ritu Raj Awasthi passed the order on the PIL filed by a local lawyer questioning the advertisement issued by the UPLSA on May 14.

The petitioner alleged that the advertisement was not in conformity with the provisions of Legal Services Authorities Act 1987.

"On the submissions as made, prima facie, the matter appears requiring consideration," the court observed.

"Having regard to the circumstances, it is provided in the interest of justice that further proceedings under the advertisement in question though may be continued, but shall remain subject to further orders to be passed in this writ petition," it added.

The court while issuing notice to the respondent Member Secretary of UPLSA, directed to list this matter next month.
