Veteran Tamil writer D Jayakanthan died here today following prolonged illness, family sources said.
81-year old Jayakanthan, a winner of Jnanpith and Sahitya Akademi Awards, passed away at his residence here tonight, his son Jayasimhan told PTI.
He is survived by his wife, two daughters and a son.
Known for his work "Sila Nerangalil Sila Manidhargal" among others, Jayakanthan, who has penned several novels and short stories, was awarded the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1972 and the Jnanpith Award in 2002.
