A man and his girl friend were arrested here for allegedly demanding Rs five lakh from a contractor, posing as Maoists, the police said today.
The police lured Enamal Haq and his girl friend to walk into a trap laid after contractor Audhesh Kumar complained about them, Superintendent of Police (Ranchi City) Jaya Roy told reporters.
Calling themselves Maoists, the accused had demanded Rs five lakh and were caught when they came to collect the first instalment of Rs one lakh from the complainant at a spot yesterday, the SP said.
