A Naxal leader, with a Rs 10 lakh bounty on his head, was today killed in an encounter with security forces in the jungles of Jharkhand's Gumla district.
Officials said the encounter took place at about 11 AM when a squad of security personnel, led by CRPF, was out for operations in the Konerbeda-Palkot village of the district.
"A zonal committee member of the local Naxal group named Nilesh alias Yatin has been killed in the operation conducted by a joint team of security forces. His body and a gun were recovered after the operation and have been handed over to police," they said.

The CRPF, in a statement said, Nitesh was a member of the 'Koel Sankh' Zone and was Secretary of the Simdega sub-zone of CPI (Maoist) active in Jharkhand and carried a cash reward of Rs 10 lakh.
"He has been an active Naxal since the last almost a decade and operated in Gumla, Simdega and adjoining regions. He has been involved in various incidents of attacks on police and killing of innocent civilians," they said.
