West, East maintain winning run

West Zone and East Zone sustained their winning run on day 2 of the J K Bose T20 cricket tournament at the 38th national convention of the Sports Journalists Federation of India at the Motera stadium today.

West, who downed South yesterday, scored a 72-run victory over holders North while East, who beat North on day one, drubbed South by seven wickets.

Brief scores: West Zone 189 for 3 (D Pandey 51, T Rizvi 44 not out) beat North Zone 117 for 6 (C Luthra 49, Sabi Hussain 24; A Bezbaruah 3 for 7, E Ali 2 for 21) by 72 runs.
 

South Zone 94 for 8(S Kishore 33 not out; T Ali 2-14) lost to East Zone 96 for 3 (A Aziz 39 not out; S Krishna 2 for 22) by 7 wickets.

Meanwhile, Sports Writers of Association of Bangalore (SWAB) teams advanced to the semi-final round of the A C Bali Trophy table tennis tournament, along with defending champions Sports Journalists Association of Mumbai and Assam Sports Journalists Association.

Results (Quarter-finals): SJAM beat Tripura Sports Journalists Club 2-0; SWAB B beat Tamil Nadu Sport Journalists Association 2-1; ASJA beat Delhi Sports Journalists Association 2-1; SWAB A beat Calcutta Sports Journalists Club 2-0.
