A woman committed suicide today allegedly after consuming poison in Anantnag district of south Kashmir, police said.
The woman consumed died after some poisonous substance at her Kokernag residence Anantnag. She was rushed to SMHS hospital here where she took her last breathe, a police spokesman said.
A case has been registered and further investigation are on to ascertain as to why she took the extreme step, he said.
Meanwhile, Hurriyat Chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq expressed concern over the incident.
"It was unfortunate...Domestic violence and molestation of women reflect a gory picture about the treatment being meted out to the women in our society," he said while addressing a gathering at Buchpora here.
It was the collective responsibility of all to try to eradicate the social evils and especially the evil of violence against the women folk, he added.
