Mystery shrouded the death of a 27-year old woman constable who was found hanging in her house near here today.
There was a quarrel between the constable, G Kokilambal, and her husband Ravi, a farmer, this morning and later she was found dead under suspicious circumstances at Mannee Karaiyur. It was not known whether she committed suicide or was murdered, Police said adding investigations were on.
Kokilambal attached to state railway police here was to join duty today after six months of maternity leave for delivery of her second child.
There had been frequent quarrels between Kokilambal and her husband over dowry since their marriage four years ago. The couple had a thre-year-old son and a six-month old daughter.
As the parents of the constable raised doubts about her death, Kumbakonam Assistant Collector held an inquiry on the spot in the presence of District Superintendent of Police G.Dharmarajan and Papanasam DSP Shivaji Arutchelvan.
Police were questioning Kokila's husband and her in-laws.
Kokilaa was an efficient constable and had won five awards, officials said.
