A 30-year-old married woman

allegedly killed her paramour at a guest house in south-east Delhi's Sarai Kale Khan area, police said today.

The woman set the man on fire. She also received burn injuries in the process.

She had escaped from the hospital and was later arrested by a police team, said DCP (Southeast) M S Randhawa.

According to the police, the incident was reported around 2.30 PM on Tuesday when the staff of a guesthouse in Sarai Kale Khan area called up the police and reported that a man was set on fire.

A PCR team rushed to the spot and found the man, almost completely burnt, and a woman, with severe burn injuries, in a room at the guest house. Both were rushed to Safdarjung Hospital by the time local police could reach there.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the woman, identified as Rinku alias Sunita, had allegedly set the man ablaze and a case of attempt to murder was registered against her. A forensic team also recovered a bottle of kerosene and a matchbox from the toilet at the guest house room.

Meanwhile at the hospital, the man, identified as Gajanand (53) succumbed to the burn injuries around 11 PM and the woman had fled by then.

When the case was converted into that of a murder and the police started looking for the woman, she was nowhere around.

"A police team was formed. They received a tip-off that Sunita would come near Sarai Kale Khan traffic intersection in a private car today morning. The police laid a trap there and Sunita was arrested," said Randhawa.

During interrogation, Sunita told the police that she had an extra-marital affair with Gajendra, who was a native of Sawai Madhopur district in Rajasthan and earned a livelihood as an astrologer there.

They met in Delhi around four years ago, when Gajendra used to sell idols and other worship articles outside a temple at Chandni Chowk, said a police official.

She often used to demand money from Gajendra. The latter had also given her Rs 10 lakh recently after selling a land at his native place for Rs 18 lakh.

Gajendra had lately started suspecting her conduct and had threatened that he would tell her husband about their relationship.

On Monday, she asked Gajendra to come here and rented a room, claiming to be husband and wife, at the guesthouse, where he allegedly set him ablaze, the official added.
