Woman trampled by elephant

A woman was trampled to death by a wild elephant in the hills of Guwahati, the police said today.

The elephant entered the woman's house on the hills at Botahghuli area on Assam-Meghalaya border in search of jackfruit last night and trampled her to death there, sources said.

The 55-year-old woman, who was living alone in her bamboo-tin hut, was identified as Phulchan Bibi.

The house was on the elephant corridor with the animals coming down from nearby Amchung Reserved Forest, sources said.
