Youth injured in clash dies

A youth succumbed to injuries

he sustained during a fight he and his friends had with a group of people in Maddox Square in the southern part of the city last week, police said today.

Ronit Mondal (29) had suffered serious head injuries in the fight and he died last night at a private hospital where he was admitted on Friday.

"On Friday night Ronit and four of his friends drove from Sonapur in the South 24 Parganas and bought biriyani from an outlet in Park Circus. The then drove to Maddox Square and were having the food when a few unknown persons asked them to leave the place. Ronit and his friends said they would leave after finishing the food," a police officer said.
 

The group of men then allegedly attacked them and broke one window pane of the car, the officer said adding that the five then decided to drive back. On the way they found that Ronit was profusely bleeding from the back of his head.

"They took him to a medical facility in Gariahat that refused to admit him. Then they took to another one in the EM Bypass where Mondal died last night," he said.

Ronit's friends have lodged an FIR with the Ballygunge Police Station against unknown persons and police started a murder case.

"Investigation will start after we get the post mortem report which will play a crucial role in this case," the IPS officer said.
