Cellular operators in the metros have written off huge unpaid revenues to the tune of Rs 60 crore in 1997-98. Most of this is on the balance sheets of Delhi and Mumbai cellular operators.
According to sources, Sterling Cellular in Delhi has decided to remove from its balance sheet unpaid revenues to the extent of Rs 18 crore in fiscal 1997-98. Bharti Cellular, on the other hand, has written off about Rs 12 crore. Another Rs 20 crore is being written off by cellular operators in Mumbai, Hutchison Max Telecom and BPL Mobile Communications.
Both the Delhi operators have been experiencing huge amounts of unpaid bills. Last year, the estimated losses were as high as Rs 25 crore in one of the cellular providers
