The Central Training Establishment (CTE) of Indian Airlines may be hived off into a separate corporate entity. Indicating this here yesterday, Indian Airlines general manager, HRD, Shekhar Ghosh said CTE doors have now been thrown open to individuals seeking training in aviation.
The proposal to elevate CTE to the status of a deemed aviation university is now under the consideration of the central government.
CTE has sought an international civil aviation certification so that its training programme gets global recognition.
Apart from meeting in full the training requirements of the Indian Airlines, CTE has also trained personnel from other airlines like Air Lanka, Air Tanzania, Ariana, British Airways, Bangladesh Biman, Royal Nepal Airlines, Yemenia and Zambia Airways, Ghosh said.
CTE has the state-of-the-art technology for training pilots, flight engineers, aircraft maintenance engineers, cabin crew, ground support, flight despatch, commercial and management staff of civil aviation organisations.
According to Ghosh, CTE is an important profit centre for Indian Airlines and had earned a revenue of Rs 416 lakh last year.
