Ponds Soars On Swap Rumour, Sensex Up 87pt

Ponds India led an 86.94 points rise in the 30-scrip Bombay Stock Exchange sensex yesterday, as market rumours of a favourable 9:10 swap ratio for its merger into HLL fuelled frenzied trading in the scrip.

On the BSE, trading in Ponds was frozen at the upper end of the circuit filter at a new 52-week high of Rs 1155.75, up Rs 105 over the previous close. About 1.4 lakh shares were traded. On the NSE, Ponds hit a new 52-week high of Rs 1185, before closing at Rs 1170.50 (up Rs 86.15), with trading volumes of 3.53 lakh shares.

The sensex rose to 3571.63 on renewed buying interest by FIIs and support from domestic FIs. Total traded turnover on the BSE amounted to Rs 977.72 crore. The Nifty closed at 1045.80 points, up 9.75 points over the previous close of 1036.05. Shares worth Rs 1,183.13 crore were traded.
