Adding Spice to smartphone pie

The Spice Pinnacle FHD is a strong and affordable smartphone... and it's full high-definition

At first glance, the Spice Pinnacle FHD Mi-525 looks like any other smartphone. But when you go deeper into the specifications you realise it has a lot of potential. Full-high definition smartphones don't come on the cheap these days, but the Pinnacle FHD might just be an exception.

Build and display
There is nothing special in the Pinnacle FHD in terms of design. It sports a 5-inch (12.7 cm) screen with all the three capacitive keys placed below it. The power key is on the right, whereas the volume rocker is on the left. Both these keys were responsive and easy to reach despite the phablet's bulky frame. We were again disappointed with the absence of a dedicated camera button. Once you remove the back cover, you can spot the battery compartment. Right next to the battery are the slots for two SIM cards and a microSD card. The viewing angles on the Pinnacle FHD's screen - that has a resolution of 1920x1080 - were acceptable. At 175 g, the phone is a bit bulky.

OS, processor and memory
The Pinnacle FHD runs Android Jelly Bean 4.2. Now, probably the phone's most dominant part is its 1.5 Ghz quad-core processor which complements the operating system and aids in its smooth functioning. There were no functionality lags or hiccups. A 1 GB RAM also enhances the Pinnacle FHD's performance. It has an internal memory of 8 GB and comes with a memory card slot, which is expandable to 32 GB.

Camera
The Pinnacle FHD comes with an 8 megapixel auto-focus rear camera and a 2 megapixel front camera. The picture quality of the rear camera was average though it has a powerful dual-LED flash. The front camera is fit enough to take self-portraits or video-calling.

The HD part
The Pinnacle FHD is a full-HD phone and it did deliver some pretty impressive results. Watching videos and playing a few games on the FHD was fun. If you have a craving for crystal-clear videos or watching movies on the go, then the Pinnacle FHD, armed with decent sound output, is exactly what you need.

Performance and final words
The 2,100 mAH battery in the device is strong enough to last for a day-and-a-half. It easily withstood frequent gaming sessions, lots of YouTube and WiFi usage. While it does not bring anything spectacularly special to the table, it is a decent deal at Rs 16,990 because you won't find many full-HD smartphones coupled with a strong processor in this price range.
