GSM-based telecom company Aircel today launched 3G services in Uttar Pradesh (East) circle, the second circle after Chennai. Besides, Aircel is the second company after state-owned Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited to launch 3G services in UP (E).

In the first phase, the company has launched 3G services in Lucknow and gradually other major towns including Kanpur, Allahabad and Varanasi would be covered. “The remaining towns and rural pockets in UP (E) would be covered in phases in next nine months,” Aircel National Head (operations and customer support) Vipul Saurabh told Business Standard here after the launch.

Currently, the company is engaged in upgrading its cell site infrastructure to support both 2G and 3G services. Cell site or Base Transceiver Station facilitates wireless communication between telecom service client and network. “We are integrating and optimising our cell sites,” he added.

Aircel has launched 3G service packages for different segments and usage patterns ranging Rs 132 to Rs 802 for 75 MB to 1,024 MG usage for a month.
