As one of the longest-running newspapers in the United States, popularly known in New York as just 'The Grey Lady', it serves as one of the country's newspapers of record. As of 2023, the newspaper had 296,330 print subscribers, making it the second-largest newspaper by print circulation in the nation behind The Wall Street Journal which has 609,650 print subscribers.
