He is a mining engineer from Osmania University, and has an M.Tech in 'Open-Cast Mining' from Indian School of Mines (IIT- ISM), Dhanbad. In 1988 he obtained a 'first class mines manager' certificate from DGMS. He also holds a degree in law from Nagpur University.
