At SVA we often talk at length about our unsurpassed growth strategy and how we aresustaining that growth momentum. But we seldom ask ourselves one simple but fundamentalquestion: Is there any deeper purpose behind this strategy? Any definite plan ofwhich multi-sectoral growth is just the outward expression or affirmation?' I would liketo take this opportunity to answer this question unambiguously; so that you can understandour priorities better and see our road ahead clearer. From a very modest beginning wehave reached a stage in our corporate existence when we cannot be just identified as amanufacturer of zinc oxide. We have not restricted our vision in the domain of zinc oxideor in trading of stocks and shares for that matter. We have reinforced our footprint inaltogether new segment of tea and tea products and even foraying into the hotels andretail sector of the Company's brand product "BASILUR TEA" and new brand product"AUSSEE OATS" at Sri Lanka with the main object to manufacture Oats and Mueslibased food products for local and export market. The purpose is not just enhancedvisibility but to understand global market forces better and to create products andsolutions that fulfil the needs of today and tomorrow in line with evolving socio-economicscenario. Effective innovation has always been our motto.
Although the sharp increase in prices of raw materials has dragged down the profitsfigures but it has not affected the Company's potential to keep on growing. In apost-recessionary global economy our deep-rooted belief that companies today mustharmonize performance with social commitment is resonating more than ever before. This hasimportant implications for different stakeholders: for consumers and shareowners thistranslates into creating enhanced value both economic and social through trusted brands;for governments and the general public it translates into responsibility. All businesseshave a responsibility to the communities in which they operate to the consumers theyserve and to the planet whose resources they use.
ENVIRONMENT AND SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
Environment protection and social responsibility are deeply ingrained in our corporatecredo. SLCL's concern for the environment is reflected in the following initiatives:in-campus greening; encouraging judicious use of natural resources; recycling; pollutioncontrol to ensure clean air and water; and reduction of landfill wastes. We have alsoDeveloped 30 acres of land for organic product development. We ensure healthy workingenvironment and proper housing and medical facilities for our people. We adhere to strictlab our compliance to all working conditions and benefits as directed under Indian Labourlaws.
At SVA we believe what's right for society is right for business. It is a belief towhich we are deeply committed. Businesses cannot create supreme value locally or globallywithout an underpinning of integrity and responsibility. We will continue to chart ourfuture course of action based on this fundamental value system seeking the encouragementand support of all stakeholders. Finally I would like to put on record my sincereappreciation towards all the stakeholders be it bankers shareholders customerssuppliers and the employees for the continuing faith and confidence that they have reposedin us. We are confident that with their continued support cooperation and guidance theCompany will excel to achieve new landmarks in future.
