Centre to states: Act tough on threats to bankers

The Union finance ministry has requested the chief secretaries of all states and Union Territories in India to safeguard bank staff and maintain uninterrupted banking services for the public. The move comes after recent disturbing incidents of antisocial elements behaving aggressively with bank staff within the bank premises.

India-US trade talks continue unaffected

India is also citing the joint statement signed during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the US in February, in which both sides agreed to begin negotiations for the BTA. “Both sides also pledged to collaborate to enhance bilateral trade by increasing US exports of industrial goods to India and Indian exports of labour-intensive manufactured products to the US,” the joint statement said.

 

On Tuesday, US Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick said a trade deal between India and the US could be finalised in the “not too distant future,” signalling that an agreement may be reached before the current 90-day pause on American reciprocal tariffs ends on July 9.

In a first, Rafale fuselage to be made in India under Tata-Dassault tie-up

In a first, the fuselage of the Rafale combat aircraft will be manufactured in India — for both domestic and global markets — after France’s Dassault Aviation and Indian private sector defence major Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL) announced on Thursday the signing of four Production Transfer Agreements for the manufacture of key structural sections of the Rafale at a production facility TASL will set up in Hyderabad, Telangana.

 

Describing the agreements as a significant step forward in strengthening India’s aerospace manufacturing capabilities and supporting global supply chains, an official release by the two companies said, “Under the scope of the partnership, TASL will set up a cutting-edge production facility in Hyderabad for the manufacture of key structural sections of the Rafale, including the lateral shells of the rear fuselage, the complete rear section, the central fuselage, and the front section.”

Dr. Reddy's and Alvotech Partner to Develop Biosimilar of Blockbuster Cancer Drug Keytruda

Global biotech major Alvotech and Hyderabad based Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories (DRL) have entered into a collaboration to co-develop, manufacture, and commercialize a biosimilar version of Merck’s blockbuster cancer drug Keytruda (pembrolizumab), which clocked global sales of $29.5 billion in 2024. DRL shares jumped 3 percent on Thursday on BSE. 

 

Under the agreement, both parties will jointly handle development and manufacturing responsibilities while sharing associated costs. Each will also have global commercialization rights, subject to certain exceptions.

China issues warrants for alleged Taiwanese hackers, bans business for pro-independence links

China issued warrants Thursday for 20 Taiwanese people it said carried out hacking missions in the Chinese mainland on behalf of the island's ruling party, while separately banning dealings with a Taiwanese company whose owners mainland authorities called “hardcore Taiwan independence supporters”.

Police in the southern manufacturing hub of Guangzhou said they were led by a man named Ning Enwei on behalf of Taiwan's independence-leaning Democratic Progressive Party

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Thursday cited the drop in the sales of two-wheelers and cars as well as the fall in the mobile market to attack the government and said the country needs politics that is not about the glitz of events but connected with the reality of everyday life. "The statistics tell the truth. In the last year, two-wheeler sales have fallen by 17 per cent and car sales by 8.6 per cent. The mobile market has fallen by 7 per cent. On the other hand, both expenses and debt are constantly increasing: house rent, domestic inflation, education expenses, almost everything is becoming expensive," Gandhi said in his post in Hindi on X.

Russian strike kills 5, hours after Trump calls Putin

Fire breaks out in Delhi's Friends Colony; no injuries reported

A fire broke out in a house in the Friends Colony area on Thursday morning, an official said. According to the Delhi Fire Service, they received a call regarding the blaze at around 9:45 am, prompting the dispatch of five fire tenders to the scene. Firefighters are currently working to extinguish the flames.
