People continue to suffer due to burning coal fields in Jharkhand's Jharia

Jharia (Jharkhand), May 09 (ANI): The coal fields burning underground in Jharkhand's Jharia for over 100 years have proved disastrous for the residents. Besides the obvious health issues, in face of toxic air releasing from the burning coal fields, faced by the locals, unemployment is another issue that has been troubling the youth of Jharia, many of those are now shifted in the nearby Belgadia. Vasant, one of the locals complained of lack of employment opportunities in Belgadia and said they have to go back to Jharia to seek work. "There are no employment opportunities here we have to go to Jharia to earn. No politician has ever come here except to ask for votes," Vasant told ANI. Jharia Rehabilitation and Development Authority (JRDA) which was constituted in 2004-05 to rehabilitate people living in Jharia has transported nearly 2800 families in Belgadia.
