Defying Chief justice's impeachment, anger and protest intensifies in Nepal

Kathmandu, Nepal, May 05 (ANI): The protest against the impeachment of Nepal Supreme Court's Chief Justice Sushila Karki has gained momentum in Nepal. The first ever female chief justice of Nepal, Karki is now suspended after an impeachment proposal was registered by the MP's of Nepali Congress and Maoist Center in the Parliament Secretariat. The impeachment proposal, which is said to have been signed by 251 lawmakers, has claimed that the Chief Justice Karki showed biases while making the verdict and that she had interfered with the executive powers. The Nepali Congress Lawmaker Min Bahadur Bishwakarma and Maoist Lawmaker Tek Bahadur Basnet had led the motionon Sunday. This is the first ever impeachment motion against the Chief Justice of Nepal and the second impeachment order in the past six months where a top governmental official has been tried.
