India produced a commanding performance to defeat reigning champions South Korea 4-1 in the final of the Men’s Asia Cup Hockey 2025, held at the Rajgir Hockey Stadium in Bihar on Saturday. In front of a raucous home crowd, the Indian team clinched their fourth Asia Cup title, securing automatic qualification for the 2026 FIH Hockey World Cup.
India struck early, with Sukhjeet Singh finding the back of the net in the first minute with a brilliant strike into the top corner, setting the tone for the rest of the game. Despite missing a penalty stroke through Jugraj Singh, the hosts maintained relentless pressure. Dilpreet Singh doubled India’s lead before half-time with a well-placed shot into the bottom right corner, giving India a 2-0 cushion at the break.
In the third quarter, Rajendar made it 3-0 with a calm finish, virtually sealing the game as Korea struggled to cope with India’s tempo and intensity. Although Dilpreet had a goal disallowed, Amit Rohidas made no mistake from a penalty corner early in the final quarter, scoring India’s fourth goal.
Korea managed a consolation goal in the sixth minute of the final quarter, but it was too little, too late. India remained composed in the final minutes, denying the defending champions any chance of a late comeback.
Coach Craig Fulton will be proud of the team’s balance between solid defense and clinical attacking play. This win not only marks a successful title run but also underlines India's rising dominance in Asian hockey.
With the FIH World Cup 2026 on the horizon, this triumph serves as a major boost for the Blue Tigers, who will now look to carry this momentum forward onto the global stage.
