The Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Councils (LAHDCs) for Leh and Kargil districts have failed to submit accounts for audit since their inception, the Comptroller and Auditor General of India said, terming it a serious financial irregularity. The audit reports of eight other autonomous bodies in Jammu and Kashmir, including both wings of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agriculture Science and Technology (Kashmir and Jammu) (SKUAST), J&K state housing board and state legal service authority are also pending for many years, the CAG said. The Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) has written to the finance ministry seeking details about the ongoing performance audit of government's massive recapitalisation excercise of public sector banks (PSBs). CAG is doing performance audit on recapitalisation ofPSBs after 2016-17 and it has written a letter to the Department of Financial Services, Ministry of Finance, seeking various information, including rationale for distribution of capital among different PSBs, sources said. The Government of India made capital infusion to the tune of Rs 90,000 crore in 2017-18. This rose to Rs 1.06 lakh crore in the following year. During the last financial year, the capital infusion through bonds was Rs 70,000 crore. For the current fiscal, the government has earmarked Rs 20,000 crore for the capital infusion into the PSBs. Of this, the government allocated Rs 5,500 crore to Punjab & Sind Bank in November 2020 for meeting the regulatory requirement prescribed under the Basel III .

The Maharashtra government has decided to hand over to the SIT the probe into the "irregularities" in the Jalyukt Shivar water conservation scheme as the CAG report has raised questions on its quality and results, Home Minister Anil Deshmukh said on Thursday. His statement comes a day after the state government announced a probe into the Jalyukt Shivar scheme launched by the earlier Devendra Fadnavis-led dispensation. "#CAG report has raised many questions on the quality, cost & results of the Jalyukt Shivar scheme launched by Ex-CM @Dev_Fadnavis Ji. Hence we have decided to hand it over to #SIT for the investigation of irregularities in this scheme & then take further actions accordingly," Deshmukh tweeted. The "Jalyukt Shivar Abhiyaan", a pet project of Fadnavis, was launched in 2014 with the objective of making Maharashtra drought-free by 2019. The project involved deepening and widening of streams, construction of cement and earthen stop dams, work on nullahs .
