A tornado struck an Indiana home, killing a man and injuring his wife, while two people died in Arkansas after a tree fell onto a house, as severe weather rumbled through several central states. The tornado that hit the home Sunday evening was part of a storm system that pushed through a rural, wooded area of southern Indiana's Martin County. The injured woman was flown by helicopter to a hospital, said Cameron Wolf, Martin County's emergency management director. The newer, log cabin-style house was leveled as a storm that also had large hail and other strong winds raked the area about 85 miles (140 kilometers) southwest of Indianapolis. Assam flood situation grim, death toll at 3, over 4 lakh people hit

The flood situation in Assam remained grim on Saturday with the death toll rising to three and over 4 lakh people across 15 districts reeling under the deluge, an official bulletin said. Most of the rivers in the state continued to be in spate, it said. The flood waters claimed the life of a man in Nalbari district, taking the total toll to three so far, Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) said in its report. The water level of the Brahmaputra river was flowing above the danger mark at Tezpur and Nematighat in Jorhat. Altogether, 4,07,771 people, including 1,67,538 women and 53,119 children, are reeling under the impact of the deluge, the report said. The affected districts are Bajali, Baksa, Barpeta, Chirang, Darrang, Dhubri, Dibrugarh, Goalpara, Golaghat, Jorhat, Kamrup, Lakhimpur, Nagaon, Nalbari and Tamulpur. An explosion at a steel mill in China's northeast killed four people and left five hospitalised with injuries, the city government said on Friday. A blast furnace exploded Thursday morning at the Yingkou Iron and Steel Co., Ltd. in Yingkou, east of Beijing in Liaoning province, the city's Emergency Management Bureau said in a statement. The cause was under investigation, but experts believe an equipment malfunction was to blame, the announcement said. Phone calls to the Yingkou government on Friday weren't answered. Two persons were killed and more than 10 others injured when a speeding private bus overturned in Madhya Pradesh's Morena district, police said on Monday. The accident took place at around 9 pm on Sunday near Sikroda bridge between Joura and Kailaras towns when the bus was going to Sabalgarh from Morena, according to an official. The bus driver lost control over the wheels at a road turn following which the vehicle overturned in a pit, Joura police station in-charge OP Rawat said. Two passengers died on the spot, he said. More than 10 others were injured and undergoing treatment at a hospital in Kailaras, he said. Two of the seriously injured passengers were shifted to Morena for further treatment, the official said.

Odisha triple train accident: Death toll increases to 291, says official

The death toll in the Balasore train accident mounted to 291 after a passenger from Bihar succumbed to his injuries at SCB Medical College Hospital here on Saturday, officials said. The passenger was identified as Sahil Mansur (32) of Roshanpur in Bhagalpur district of Bihar. He was undergoing treatment at the ICU of trauma care, hospital sources said, adding that the patient was also suffering from a kidney-related ailment. He was also under dialysis, they said. SCB Medical College Hospital Superintendent Dr Sudhansu Sekhar Mishra said the patient died due to cardiac arrest. He had multiple injuries both internal and external and also had renal issues. Odisha Triple Train Accident: Death toll increases to 290, says official

The toll in Bahanaga Bazar train disaster rose to 290 after a 17-year-old resident of Bihar succumbed to his injuries in SCB Medical College and Hospital here on Friday, officials said. Prakash Ram, who was travelling in the ill-fated Shalimar-Chennai Coromondel Express on June 2 when it met with the accident, was undergoing treatment at the surgery ward of the state-run hospital, he said. He had sustained severe head and leg injuries, besides internal injuries and was admitted to the hospital in a critical condition. A portion of his left leg was amputated below the knee but his condition deteriorated during the past few days, the hospital authority said. It informed the local police about the death and the body will be handed over to Prakash's family after post-mortem. Hospital superintendent Sudhanshu Sekhar Mishra told PTI that the doctors had carried out a second amputation above the left knee three days ago as the patient had suffered from infection after blood transfusion.
