G20 tourism working group, tourism ministers' meet in Goa on June 19

The concluding and fourth meeting of the G20 tourism working group and tourism ministers' meeting will begin in Goa on Monday. Addressing a press conference here on Sunday, V Vidyavathi, secretary of the Union tourism ministry, said the working group will pass the Goa roadmap for tourism as a vehicle for achieving sustainable development goals (SDGs). The ministers' meeting will have G20 tourism ministers' declaration, she said. The ministry of tourism has made positive progress on finalising the two key deliverables of the tourism working group, the official said. Three meetings of the working group have already been held in the past, she said. The meeting in Goa will be held from June 19 to 22. Under India's G20 tourism track, the tourism working group is working on five interconnected priority areas of green tourism, digitalisation, skills, tourism MSMEs and destination management, Vidyavathi said. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has written to the leaders of the G20 nations, proposing that the African Union be given full membership of the grouping at its upcoming summit in India, official sources said on Saturday. The prime minister has taken a "bold step" to enhance Africa's voice on the international stage and in shaping the future of "our shared world", they said. "He has written to G20 counterparts to propose that the African Union be given full membership at the upcoming Delhi Summit of G20, as requested by them," said a source. "The prime minister has led from the front on this matter, which he strongly advocates and supports," according to the source. This will be the right step towards a just, fair, more inclusive and representative global architecture and governance, the sources said. As part of India's G20 presidency, Modi has been particularly focusing on incorporating priorities of the African countries in the G20 agenda.

Union Minister of State for Education Subhas Sarkar on Friday called for collaborative efforts to explore multi-dimensional aspects of Indian knowledge systems, including "vastu vidya". Stating that the agriculture sector is facing several challenges globally, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday urged the G20 Agriculture Ministers Meeting to deliberate on how to undertake collective action for achieving global food security. In a video message to the three-day meeting underway in Hyderabad, Modi said climate change is causing extreme weather events more and more frequently, and these challenges are felt most by the global South. "Globally, agriculture provides livelihood for over 2.5 billion people. In the global South, agriculture accounts for almost 30 per cent of the GDP and over 60 per cent of jobs and today this sector faces several challenges. India signed MoUs with four countries - Armenia, Sierra Leone, Suriname and Antigua and Barbuda - on sharing INDIA STACK, a digital solutions implemented at population scale during the third meeting of the 'G20 Digital Economy Working Group (DEWG)' that concluded here on Wednesday. G20: Side events on cruise tourism, circular economy of plastics in Goa

Promoting cruise tourism as a "model for sustainable and responsible travel" will be one of the focus areas among the side events at the two crucial G20 meetings on tourism next week in Goa, officials said on Wednesday. The fourth and final G20 Education Working Group (EdWG) meeting scheduled from June 19 to 21 in Pune will be held under the theme 'Ensuring Foundation Literacy and Numeracy', especially in the context of blended learning, officials said on Monday. A three-day meet of the Supreme Audit Institutions (SAI) of G20 countries will be held in Dona Paula in Goa from Monday, an official said. The SAI20 Summit 2023, which will have a main meet and four side events, will hold discussions to form a consensus document, or communique, a state government spokesperson said.
