BCCI have faith in me and in my abilities: Sourav Ganguly

Kolkata, Oct 15 (ANI): Sourav Ganguly, who is all set to become the President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), on October 15 said, "I get an opportunity when it's a tough situation and it gives me a tremendous amount of confidence. BCCI have faith in me and in my abilities. I will work with the best I have known." Ganguly, however, will be able to serve as BCCI President only until September 2020. He has been holding posts in the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) for the past five years where he currently serves as President. An administrator can only serve six years on the trot.

Shane Watson felicitates school students in Chennai

Chennai (Tamil Nadu), Oct 15 (ANI): Former Australian Cricketer Shane Watson felicitated the school students in Tamil Nadu's Chennai on October 14. The event took place at a school located in Ayanambakkam area of Chennai. He met several students on this occasion and awarded them with medals and trophy. All-rounder player also shared his experience about playing with different teams in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

While addressing a press conference all-rounder player Shane Watson spoke on Legendary Cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni and about his retirement plans. He said, "He has still got the skill but it is to him to decide. MS Dhoni can do whatever he wants to do. He is still very young and moves incredibly well. He runs hard between the wickets and has beautiful hands. Whatever he does, it will be the right thing because he knows what lies ahead."

Men, Women Hockey teams arrive in Bhubaneswar ahead of Olympic qualifiers

Bhubaneswar (Odisha), Oct 14 (ANI): As the FIH (International Hockey Federation) Olympic Qualifiers are inching closer, Indian hockey's men's and women's teams arrived in Bhubaneswar on October 14. The camp will begin from October 14 onwards at the Kalinga Stadium. The camp will focus on the team's preparation for the FIH Olympic Qualifiers, which are scheduled to be played on November 1 and 2. While speaking to ANI, Men's hockey team captain Manpreet Singh said, "Qualifier match is important for us and as well as for Russia. We can't take them lightly. Till the time our training camp was good."

Postpaid mobile services to be restored in Kashmir valley from Oct 14: JandK Principal Secretary

Srinagar (JandK), Oct 12 (ANI): The administration in Kashmir announced to restore all post-paid mobile connections from Monday (October 14). "Mobile phone connections, to be specific, all postpaid mobile phone connections, irrespective of service provider, will resume from Monday - October 14th at noon. This will happen across the state, in all 10 districts of Kashmir," Jammu and Kashmir Principal Secretary Rohit Kansal said at a news briefing in Srinagar. The government had imposed a communications blackout in Jammu and Kashmir before scrapping its special status under the constitution on August 5.

PM Modi, Chinese Prez Xi visits artefacts and handloom exhibition in Kovalam

Kovalam (Tamil Nadu), Oct 12 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping visited an exhibition on artefacts and handloom at Taj Fisherman's Cove Hotel in Tamil Nadu's Kovalam. A range of artefacts were displayed including 'Nataraja'. A variety of colourful sarees also dotted the walls at the exhibition. The exhibition also had at least two traditional sarees which have Chinese President's face imprinted on it. The aim of the exhibition was to introduce Prez X with Tamil culture. Earlier, both leader held one-on-one and delegation level talks. The leaders arrived in coastal city after holding informal talks in Mamallapuram on Oct 11.

However, Captain Virat Kohli said, "Have to play good regardless how the pitch behaves." However, the forecast also added that between October 10 and 12, the intensity of rainfall is likely to reduce. The city will continue to witness overcast sky conditions on October 13 and October 14. Mithali Raj expecting 'very competitive' ODI series against South Africa

Vadodara (Gujarat), Oct 09 (ANI): Ahead of the first One Day International (ODI) against South Africa, India skipper Mithali Raj said that the three-match series between the two teams is going to be 'very competitive'. "There have been high scoring matches here and this ODI series is also going to be very competitive," Raj said in the pre-match press conference. Kolkata, Oct 06 (ANI): A Durga Puja committee in Kolkata has replicated scenes of Balakot air strike, as its Durga puja pandal this year.The Young Boys Club Sarbojanin Durga Puja Committee in Central Kolkata, which is celebrating golden jubilee this year, is recreating the events of the air strike with clay models and digital projection at its pandal. In Balakot air strike the Indian Air Force (IAF) jets had bombed a terror outfit's training camp in Pakistan. Kolkata turned into an art lover's paradise with numerous marquees and installations cropping up across the city.

NBA India Games: MoS Kiren Rijiju promises govt support to basketball in India

Mumbai, Oct 06 (ANI): Minister of States for Sports Kiren Rijiju arrived for the NBA match in Mumbai. Speaking to mediapersons, he said, "NBA coming and having their event in India itself is a big event. Tokyo (Japan), Oct 03 (ANI): The Tokyo International Forum hosted a test event for para-powerlifting as part of preparations for 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The spotters wore Panasonic's Power Assist Suit to assist with loading weights, and spotting the competitors to enhance safety and precision. Eri Yamamoto won the gold medal in powerlifting. The Japanese Para Powerlifting Federation and Panasonic have worked on adjusting the Power Assist Suit to fit the needs of the tournament. The Power Assist suit decreases the burden of the spotters and help tournaments to run smoothly. This advanced technology will definitely attracts lots of attention at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games and spread worldwide.

Rohit shines as Test Opener, says mental preparation is important

Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh), Oct 2 (ANI): Indian cricketer Rohit Sharma on October 2nd said that he was mentally prepared for the past two years to play as an opener in his Test career. "In West Indies they told me that it's gonna happen now, so I was prepared for past two years that at some stage I might have to open. So mentally I was ready for it," said Sharma. He also emphasised that opening in the red ball cricket is a different game as compare to white ball cricket and mentally preparation is mandatory. Rohit scored unbeaten 115 runs in his first innings as an opener to take India to a commanding 202 for no loss against South Africa before rain.

Powerlifter Arathi bags 5 gold medals in Commonwealth Powerlifting Championships in Canada

Chennai, Sep 26 (ANI): Chennai-based powerlifter Arathi Arun once again made India proud in Canada. She bagged five gold medals in 72 kg-M1 category at Commonwealth Powerlifting Championships. She received grand welcome at the airport. Surgeon by profession and mother of two children, Arathi is currently Asian Powerlifting Gold Medallist and National Champion.
