Who is Savitri Thakur?

Born in 1978, Savitri Thakur is a BJP MP from  Dhar, Madhya Pradesh, Apart from being an LS MP, Thakur is also an MoS Women and Child Development. Thakur is a well-known tribal leader of the state and reportedly worked for the upliftment of Adivasis and women before entering politics in 2003.

Political Career
Thakur was elected as the Chairman of the Zila Panchayat in Dhar from 2004 to 2009. Also, she was appointed as the National Vice President in BJP Kisan Morcha from 2017 to 2020 as she belonged to an agricultural background. Presently, she is national general secretary of Adivasi Mahila Vikas Parishad. popularly known as 'Didi', Thakur became Dhar district vice president of BJP in 2010.
 
The female politician first contested in Lok Sabha elections in 2014 from Dhar where she won by a margin of over 100,000 votes against Congress' popular tribal leader Umang Singhar.
 
After being denied a ticket in 2019, BJP fielded her again in 2024. This time she bettered her victory margin and won the Dhar constituency by over 210,000 votes. On this occasion, Thakur defeated Congress' Radheshyam Muvel.
 
Over the years, Thakur has been a member of several key committees, including the Committee on Empowerment of Women, Social Security Scheme, the Standing Committee on Industry, and the Consultative Committee for the Ministry of Railways.
 
Notably, in June 2024, during a visit to a Dhar-based government school. Thakur was reportedly unable to write the slogan 'Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao' in Hindi, which posed serious questions on her educational qualifications
