This British businessman is not going to win the British Open but will be making a fortune of more than a million pounds as he turns his luxury home at Royal Troon into a hospitality venue in July.

The Scotsman reported that millionaire Sampson, 51, would be vacating his mansion and hiring it out to entertain corporate clients while they watch world class golf.

The eight-bedroom home is just yards from the 17th green and Sampson has arranged for private jets and a fleet of chauffeur-driven Bentleys for the guests.

Actors Sir Sean Connery and Hugh Grant, both keen golfers, are rumoured to be among the guests who will get five-star treatment at the £3,000-a-day venue.

Match Play

The 2004 HSBC World Match Play Championship will be an officially sanctioned tournament on The European Tour International Schedule. The event will also count towards the Volvo Order of Merit and the Official World Golf Ranking Points.

The field has also been increased from 12 to 16 for the event to be held at Wentworth Club between October 14-17. There will be eight matches, involving all 16 players on the first day.

The matches will be decided over 36 holes. The winner will get the Mark H McCormack Trophy and a £1 million cheque.
