Marking an entry into mega thermal power generation, Adani Group's power arm Adani Power Ltd (APL) has kicked off power generation at the first unit of its 4,620 MW coal-based thermal power plant at Mundra. The company commissioned and synchronised its 330 MW unit by producing 50 MW of power.
"The company has successfully synchronised the first unit and fired the unit with crude initially on May 23. Over the next 15 days, coal would be used for firing the unit", said a top official of APL.
Adani Power's ambitious Mundra power project entailing an investment of around Rs. 20,000 crore is comprised of 4 units of 330 MW each and 5 super critical units of 660 MW each. The company intends to operationalised these units at a regular intervals of three months.
"Adani Power has successfully synchronized the first unit of 330 MW in a record time of 28 months, against normal time of 36 months", the company said in a statement.
The newly commissioned project uses very large diameter Glass Reinforce Pipes (GRP) for transporting sea water, which has been done for the first time in the country. The plant has used boiler, turbine and generators manufactured and erected by Chinese suppliers.
With this mile stone Adani Group has further reinforced its credentials both in project management for achieving superior project implementation time as well as cost.
