CCI-PMG sets timelines for major investment projects

The central PMG vetted 32 projects with investments exceeding Rs 1,000 crore across sectors like roads, railways, steel, power and petroleum

The Project Monitoring Group (PMG) of the Cabinet Committee on Infrastructure (CCI) has fixed timelines for achieving key milestones of major investment projects in Odisha.

The central PMG vetted 32 projects with investments exceeding Rs 1,000 crore across sectors like roads, railways, steel, power and petroleum. Significant headway has been made in respect of land acquisition and forest diversion proposals of the projects.

The PMG led by V P Joy, joint secretary, Cabinet secretariat, jointly reviewed the status of projects with state chief secretary G C Pati and other top state officials.

The chief secretary has urged the project developers to expedite the implementation of their ventures. It was decided at the meeting that the miscreants creating bottlenecks on the way of implementation of projects will be dealt under criminal laws.

It may be noted that e-PMS, an online project monitoring system has been put in place by the Cabinet secretariat to monitor projects involving investment of over Rs 1,000 crore.

The system tracks all stalled and ongoing projects. The system includes facilities for online submission of proposals, editing and updating of the projects, reviewing the progress and submission of details relating to bottlenecks, if any, in the project implementation. The system has been made investor friendly and it automatically eliminates duplicate as well as inconsistent record keeping. The major projects reviewed at the meeting included steel plants of Jindal Steel & Power Ltd (JSPL), Jindal Stainless Ltd (JSL), Monnet Ispat & Power Ltd, alumina refinery of National Aluminium Company (Nalco), pipeline project of Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL), power plants proposed by Lanco Babandh Power, KVK Nilachal, Monnet Power, Visa Power and Sahara India Thermal Power.
