The department of consumer affairs has sought the advice of Additional Solicitor General (ASG), one of the country's top-most law officers, to prepare a foolproof case against Nestle India, in its complaint filed with the National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC) in the case related to Maggi noodles.

Officials said the ministry has sought details of test results from the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) to give as evidence with the complaint. The decision to this effect was taken at a high-level meeting of officials from the department held on Friday.

"The complaint under unfair trade practices needs to substantiate with strong evidence, so that there is no loophole and, hence, the department wants to take all possible measures," a senior official said.

Union food minister Ramvilas Paswan had earlier said, "For the first time, we are taking action under Section 12-1-D of the Consumer Protection Act, under which both Centre and states have powers to file complaints."
