Bangalore-based DustVen, which supplies anti-pollution control equipment (APCE) to process industries and the infrastructure sector, has set up its second plant for Rs 6 crore at Dobaspet near Bangalore. DustVen, an ISO 9001 environmental engineering firm, was established in 1980.

"Our core strength is application engineering backed by a track record of successfully installing APC equipment," says K V Venugopal, CEO of DustVen.

The Dobaspet plant is expected to help reduce dependence on vendors for the firm which implements turnkey projects. It manufactures products like dust collectors, scrubbers, centrifugal fans and axial fans.

Till 2000, the implementation of anti-pollution control efforts was not so rigorous, said a source familiar with the pollution control industry. Earlier, firms only had to show they had installed anti-pollution control devices, there was no obligation on their part to show they worked.

"With anti-pollution laws tightening and there being many NGOs pressing for industries to adhere to the environmental protection norms, firms like DustVen have received a shot in the arm.

"The high growth in the revenues of firms and the amount of money being spent on pollution control too is rising," said Bail Bharath, managing director, DustVen, of the sector that is expected to see revenues of over Rs 960 crore by 2009-10.

In 2005, the APCE industry revenues were in the region of Rs 670 crore. The industry is seeing a 9-10 per cent annual growth.

DustVen sees a big opportunity here. It expects revenues in the present year to jump 100 per cent on last year's (2006-07) Rs 20 crore. "Thereafter, we are confident of maintaining a steady growth of 30 per cent per annum," said Venugopal.

The main competitors of DustVen are Alstom and Thermax.
