City-based Kernex Microsystems has bagged a $17.5 million order from the Egyptian National Railways for supply and development of 136 semi-automatic level crossing gates, a top company official said.
"The contract was executed on November five and we are shortly opening an office in Cairo in Egypt to implement the project," Kernex Microsystems India Managing Director L V Raju told reporters here.
This order is part of the Egyptian Railways' process for modernising and upgrading their national railway infrastructure and assets, he said.
Kernex Microsystems manufactures installing and maintaining anti-collision systems, railway safety and signal systems.
The company was also receiving enquiries from Bangladesh, Kazakhstan, South Africa and Sri Lanka for similar safety and signal systems, Raju said.
On the company's projects in India, Raju said: "We have successfully completed a pilot project with the North Frontier Railways and have received implementation approvals for Southern, South-Central and South-Western Railways for ACD (anti-collision devices) networking systems."
The company has set up an integrated facility in the Hardware Park near Hyderabad International Airport at Shamshabad to take up research and production of rail transport safety devices, he said.
"The production unit has an installed capacity of 15,000 ACD units a year," Raju said.
Besides, the company has obtained 250 acres of land in Rajapet near Yadagirigutta and another 250 acres near Srisailam to establish testing tracks, Raju added.
