Chennai-based jeweller and leading exporter Prakash Gold Palace (PGP) opened their first showroom in Mumbai on Wednesday and the golden ensemble proved to be a star attraction. The showroom is PGP's first foray in the city.
PGP launched a 22-carat gold jacket and skirt at the showroom, which costs Rs 60 lakh. "It is first of its kind product in India," said D B Prakash Chand Jain, director of the company.
The set has been soldered with 916 KDM, which means that the alloy used in soldering the jewellery, evaporates at certain temperature leaving only 22-carat gold.
It is the only piece in the five kg category. Earlier, PGP made a jacket/skirt of 3.5 kg which was sold in Dubai. However, the group seems uncertain about the domestic demand for such product.
"Though we are optimistic about its demand in a city like Mumbai, the focus is on exports," said Jain. He further added that the company will consider more such products if there is a demand.
