Powergrid Corporation of India Ltd (PGCIL), India’s largest power transmission utility has set up the Chimtala sub-station in the Afghan capital of Kabul.
The Sub-station is the terminal link in the NEPS transmission system in Afghanistan which is importing power from Uzbekistan to Kabul. The 202 km long transmission project has been funded by the government of India at a cost of Rs 405 crore.
With the setting up of the Chimtala sub-station, the power flow to Kabul from Uzbekistan has been established.
