Sri Ramachandra University today signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Bangalore-based National Centre for Biological Sciences (NCBS) to facilitate information exchange, exchange of students and researchers and collaborative research.
This agreement also strongly emphasises training, attending courses and programs, carrying out clinical work of research of graduate, post graduate and PhD students of both the institutions.
The MoU was signed by Sri Ramachandra University Vice Chancellor Dr S Rangasami and NCBS director Dr K Vijaya Raghavan here at a function.
The collaborative research and faculty training would be in the areas of Nanobiology, cell and molecular biology in relation to drug discovery, elucidation of mechanism of action of newer drugs, targeted trug delivery system, genetic basis of disease susceptibility and disease progression, stem cell research and tissue engineering and pharmacogenomics.
The MoU also envisages joint research project proposals for funding to national and international funding agents, joint MD/MS/MDS and PhD programme and setting up of NCBS joint centre for research at Sri Ramachandra University.
Coinciding with this, Sri Ramachandra University also launched the ICMAR programme of MD and PhD award to five of its medical,surgical and dental post graduates, who would parallelly undertake research as they do their PG degree and get their PhD also,after two years of their MD/MS/MDS degrees.
Sri Ramachandra University was the third institution in the country selected by ICMR for this programme by sanctioning five fellowship awards, carrying Central Government Junior Resident/Senior Resident pay and allowances besides contingencies.
