The pathology laboratory of Sterling Hospitals, owned and managed by Sterling AddLife India Ltd, has become the first corporate hospital laboratory in Gujarat to get accreditation by the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL). Among the sections which have been given accreditation include clinical pathology, haemathology, physical pathology, clinical biochemistry, immunoassay and microbiology and serology.

NABL is an autonomous body under the aegis of Department of Science & Technology, Government of India. NABL provides formal recognition of competent laboratories, giving customers a ready means to find reliable testing and calibration services in order to meet their demands.

"We practice dry technology method for precise reading and accurate results, besides following stringent daily maintenance practices for quality control. The most advanced equipment ensures that the best methodologies are practiced for the patient’s wellbeing, thus resulting in saving of terms of time and money due to reduction or elimination of the need for re-testing in case of doubt," said Dr Sanjeev Shah, director of pathology department, Sterling Hospital.

"Formal recognition of competence of a laboratory by an accreditation body like NABL in accordance with international criteria has many advantages. The most important for us is the fact that it enhances customer confidence and satisfaction in accepting testing, calibration reports besides increasing confidence of medical experts in deciding treatment line" explained Rajiv Sharma, chief executive officer of Sterling Hospitals.

The quality measures being practiced by the Sterling Hospitals have already been endorsed by BIORAD (USA) in Immunoassay Quality assurance last year, when the hospital’s pathology department was ranked 1st in Gujarat, 12th out of 121 in India and 64th out of 792 in the world. Sterling Hospitals was also ranked as the best hospital in Ahmedabad for the year 2008, by 'The WEEK-IMRB Survey' for the second successive year.
