US Treasury's Adeyemo says Biden considering plans for tariffs on Chinese goods

U.S. Deputy Treasury Secretary Wally Adeyemo said on Tuesday that the Biden administration considering whether to reduce some Trump-era tariffs on Chinese goods but needs to balance short-term price reduction goals against the longer-term need to eliminate unfair competition for U.S. firms.

 

"We're actively considering what we do with regard to those tariffs," Adeyemo told CNN in a live interview. "I think the important thing for every American to know is that the president is committed to doing everything we can to bring down costs in a sustainable way."

Ukraine says it seized Ukrainian assets of Russia's Tatneft

Ukraine's State Bureau of Investigation said on Tuesday it had seized assets in Ukraine belonging to companies founded by Russia's Tatneft oil company.

 

"So far, 115 real estate objects have been seized: oil depots, gas stations, non-residential buildings, land plots and 118 fuel trucks and cars," the Bureau said in an online statement.

Govt issues guidelines to states on management of monkeypox disease

In view of the increasing reports of Monkeypox (MPX) cases in non-endemic countries, as part of a proactive and risk-based approach for management of Monkeypox and to ensure advance preparedness across the country, Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has issued ‘Guidelines on Management of Monkeypox Disease’, today. 

 

There are no reported cases of monkey pox disease in India, as on date.

 

As per the guidelines, a confirmed case is laboratory confirmed for monkeypox virus by detection of unique sequences of viral DNA either by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and/or sequencing.All the clinical specimens should be transported to the Apex Laboratory of ICMR-NIV (Pune) routed through the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP) network of the respective district/state. JPM says Meta will become Broadcom's next billion-dollar customer

Facebook parent Meta Platforms Inc will use Broadcom Inc's custom chips to build its metaverse hardware, becoming the chipmaker's next billion-dollar ASIC customer, analysts at J.P. Morgan said on Tuesday.

 

ASIC (application-specific integrated circuit) chips will drive $2 billion to $2.5 billion in revenue for Broadcom this year, helped by its deals with Meta and partnerships with Alphabet and Microsoft, the analysts said.

Bodies of all 22 victims of Nepal plane crash brought to Kathmandu for post-mortem

The bodies of 22 people, including four Indians, killed in the plane crash in Nepal's mountainous Mustang district on Sunday, have been brought to Kathmandu where the mortal remains would be handed over to their families after the post-mortem on Tuesday.

 

The Canadian-built turboprop Twin Otter 9N-AET plane was carrying four Indians, two Germans and 13 Nepali passengers, besides a three-member Nepali crew when it crashed minutes after taking off from the tourist city of Pokhara, officials said.

 

Rescuers on Monday recovered 21 bodies from the wreckage site of the plane belonging to Tara Air. On Tuesday, the last body was also retrieved from the wreckage site.

Sugar production rises 15% to record 35.24 mn tons so far this yr: NFCSFL

Sugar production in India, the world's largest producer and second-largest exporter, rose 15 per cent to a record 35.24 million tonne till May 30 in the ongoing 2021-22 marketing year on higher output in Maharashtra and Karnataka, according to the data released by cooperative body NFCSFL on Tuesday.

 

Sugar production stood at 30.63 million tonne in the year-ago period. The sugar marketing year runs from October to September.

 

The sugar output achieved so far is much higher than the total output of 31.12 million tonne in the entire 2020-21 marketing year.

 

According to the data by the National Federation of Cooperative Sugar Factories Ltd (NFCSFL), another 4-5 lakh tonne of sugar is expected to be produced by the end of the current marketing year.

The BJP on Tuesday demanded the resignation of Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal and health minister Satyendar Jain, who was arrested by the ED in connection with a money laundering case, alleging that the AAP chief's stand on the issue shows that he not only condones corruption but is also involved in it.

Nepal plane crash: 12 bodies to be flown to Kathmandu, black box recovered

Nepali Army is preparing to bring 12 bodies to Kathmandu on Tuesday after the mortal remains of all the 22 victims were recovered from the Tara aeroplane crash site that took place in the Mustang district of Nepal on Sunday morning.

Notably, two bodies have been brought to the base station in Khabang-Mustang today while black box has also been recovered from the crash site.
