AP govt to create Rs 100 cr IT innovation fund soon
BS Reporter Hyderabad The Andhra Pradesh government is looking at creating a Rs 100-crore fund to drive innovation in the area of information technology (IT) in the next 60 days, according to Sanjay Jaju, secretary, IT, electronics and communications department.
"We will be bringing out 17 proactive policies with a missionary approach besides drawing a road map to create infrastructure and ecosystem through IT investment regions (ITIRs), mega IT hubs and electronics manufacturing clusters (EMCs) within two months from now," he said.
Addressing an ICT meeting with IT minister Palle Raghunatha Reddy here on Monday, Jaju said the government would lay emphasis on incentives for MSMEs and startups in its IT policy while providing single-window clearances.
"A preferential market access policy for software and electronics products will also be brought out," he said, adding the government was looking at seeding educational and R&D institutions with required IT infrastructure for promoting excellence.
Stating that the government would create IT hubs in Guntur and Anantapur besides an ITIR and an EMC in Visakhapatnam and one EMC in Tirupati on a fast track, Jaju said they would implement subsidy and other incentives on bandwidth for connectivity for KPOs and BPOs.
"Our mission is to get the top-10 big names in the IT and electronics to invest in Andhra Pradesh and bring IT majors to fill up incubation space with a targeted growth of 30 per cent in the next one year," he added.
According to an official from the Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC), the government was revamping the existing land allotment policy, which should be in place in the next 20 days.
"We are looking for ideal locations for setting up data centres. Hill station Araku in Visakhapatnam is one such location that we have zeroed in for the purpose," he said.
J Satyanarayana, IT adviser to the Andhra Pradesh government, said their mission by 2020 was to attract investments to the tune of $2 billion in IT, and $5 billion in electronics.
"We are aiming at achieving 5 per cent in the national software export and take Gigabit to all the villages in the state by 2020," he said.
