Congress retained the Bidar assemly constituency in Karnataka bye-elections when its candidate Rahim Khan defeated Suryakant Nagamarpally of BJP by a margin of more than 10,000 votes.
The bye-election was caused following Gurupadappa Nagamarpally resigning his assembly seat to defect to BJP on whose party ticket Nagamarapally's son had contested the Bidar byelection.
Gurupadappa too was defeated by former chief minister and senior Congress leader N Dharam Singh.
It proved to be a double defeat for Nagamarpally family in this election.
