DMIC clears 6 projects; expects investment of Rs 1.10 lakh cr

Central govt will invest Rs 2,215 crore in a mix of debt and equity

Giving a thrust to the infrastructure development, government-run DMIC has cleared six projects which would entail an investment of Rs 1.10 lakh crore.

The Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) Trust in its meeting yesterday has given clearances to these projects.

"The Trust has given clearances for six major projects for implementation, which will entail total investment of Rs 1.10 lakh crore," Commerce and Industry Minister Anand Sharma told reporters here today.

The progress of the project was reviewed by Sharma and his Japanese counterpart Toshimitsu Motegi.

India's ambitious $90 billion DMIC project is aimed at creating mega industrial infrastructure along the Delhi-Mumbai Rail Freight Corridor, which is under implementation. Japan is giving financial and technical aid for the project, which will cover seven states totalling 1,483 km.

Japan has committed to invest $4.5 billion in this project. The Union Cabinet had approved an expenditure of Rs 18,500 crore on development of infrastructure for the project.

The six projects include Integrated Industrial Township at Greater Noida (Rs 617.2 crore), Improvement of Water Supply System to Pithampur-Dhar-Mhow Investment Region in Madhya Pradesh (Rs 248.89 crore), Integrated Multimodal Logistics Hub in Haryana (Rs 403.3 crore)and Construction of New Rail Line from Bhimnath to Dholera (Rs 121.58 crore).

Sharma said that the first phase of the two investment regions (Dholera in Gujarat and Shendra-Bidkin in Maharasthra) will be launched within this financial year.

"Land acquisition in advance stage," he added.

The other projects which are expected to come under DMIC include mobile phone scrap recycling project in Gujarat.

Further, the Overseas Human Resources and Industry Development Association in Japan will dispatch experts in areas such as production management for a trail training course in skill development centres in Haryana in December.

He also said that work has started on Chennai-Bengaluru - Chitradurga Industrial Corridor which will pass through three states - Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.

"Preliminary study for a comprehensive integrated Master Plan has been completed which has identified 26 priority projects," the minister said.

Projects with significant progress in the CBIC area include Ennore port access road development project, Omega industrial township and Technical assistance for improving port operation in Chennai.

India and Japan are expected to develop the master plan by the end of 2014 fiscal.
