Food Security ordinance should benefit only 'targetted' people, says Bajaj

Says new system might lead to rise in corruption

Bajaj Auto Chairman Rahul Bajaj today expressed concern over the effective implementation of Food Security Ordinance. He said the new system might lead to rise in corruption.

 

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of National Council meeting of Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), here today, he said the government should ensure that the Ordinance benefits only the ‘targetted’ section of the population and it is not misused.

 

“Fiscal deficit and populist measures are two different things. Though the Food Security Ordinance might further add to the fiscal deficit, the poor need to be addressed. The Congress party should ensure that the bill is passed in the proper way in the Parliament,” he said.

 

“The opposition is seeking amendment to the bill in the current form and the UPA government should do it. It can anyway take the credit for introducing such a populist bill,” he said.

 

Bajaj, however, said PDS is the most corrupt system in the country and the government should ensure that the benefits under the bill reaches only those who needs food security.

 

On confusion within the government over FDI in the Telecom sector, Bajaj said such confusion did not augur well for any government.
