The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) Chairman, Murli Manohar Joshi on Sunday said that India should not become “unstable” by helping the European countries to stabilize its economy.
“On one hand, Union Finance Minister (Pranab Mukherjee) is saying that inflation is soaring while price of petrol is also moving up but at the same time, he is talking about helping the European countries to get out of economic crises,” Joshi told reporters here Saturday afternoon. This would unstabilise the Indian economy, he added.
The former union minister added that the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) should first improve the economic condition in the country than help the other countries. “Should we (India) become unstable by helping the European countries to stable its economy?” Joshi said, adding that no country came forward to help India when it faced economic turmoil.
Blaming the alleged wrong policies on the UPA government for the constant hike in the price of petrol, Joshi said the government had now surrendered that it could not control the inflation and price hike of petroleum products.
The Union Government should immediately curtail the tax on petrol so that some common man could get some respite, he added.
Referring to the 2G scam probe, the PAC Chairman said that Home Minister P Chidambaram was influencing the process. “The supporters of Chidambaram had been posted in crucial positions and they were affecting the process of the probe,” he added.
Joshi said if the Prime Minister was really serious about curbing corruption, he should immediately sack Home Minister Chidambaram for his role in the 2G scam.
